Plastic Injection Molding – The Rapid Growing Industry Today
|
Plastic injection molding is the process involved in producing plastic products using certain hi-fi methods. The high demand for plastic products has also led to the rise of the plastic molding industry. Today, you would find the use of plastic from products of daily use to those used in vital industry sectors like aviation industry, and construction sector etc.
So, how exactly does the desired plastic product come out from a plastic injection molding machine? Well, these machines are huge manufacturing equipment that can be operated both manually as well as in a computerized way. While the former is known as plastic machining, the latter is known as CNC plastic machining.
Talking about the plastic injection molding process, well the first step involves feeding the resin into the unit with the help of a hopper. This is followed by the inserting colorants into the machine. The resin enters the barrel, which is heated at the appropriate temperature for the best results.
The molten resin then is injected into the mold as per the manufacturing requirements. For smaller objects, smaller percentage of resin is injected into the mold. Hence, the name plastic injection molding! The molten resin gets cooled in the mold, with the supply of certain temperature for it to solidify. And then you get your desired plastic product.
I have described the plastic injection molding process in a very easy manner for you to understand. However, it is not as simple as it seems. There are many complications involved in the plastic injection molding process. It is very important to maintain a constant temperature throughout the entire plastic molding process. Or else, it may result in burned or scorched parts, as the resin may overheat at times. Also, you may get plastic products that may not have the required uniformity in wall thickness. This is likely to happen due to irregular mold surface temperature.
Other likely problem that may take happen if care is not taken of properly in plastic injection molding is the probability of surface imperfections. This may be caused due to resin decomposition and evolution of bubbles in high temperature. Further, see to it that injection stroke is appropriate, or it may result in slow speed operations and make the resin freeze even before it is filled.
CNC plastic machining has succeeded in solving some of the problems associated with conventional plastic injection molding processes. If you wish to get the best plastic products, it is essential that you get high precision and tight tolerance machining of even the most complicated plastic products.
