Solar Panels - How to Build Home Made Solar Powered Panels in 6 Easy Steps
|
The following steps are DIY steps in installing solar powered cells in your home.
Step 1 – Solar Electricity Panel Information
To build the solar panels to your home, you need to have the build your own solar panel or solar energy panel information which can be found easily on several energy websites.
Step 2 – Buying Solar Cells
Next, you need to have or purchase solar cells that are available in various size, and price. Each of these cells have .5 volt cell capacity; it takes around 30-35 interconnected cells to produce an 18 volt electricity. This volt is also ideal for charging 12 bolt chargeable batteries. It is more ideal to purchase solar cells that have been tabbed already as this will save you lots of time in putting up your solar panel.
Step 3 – Solar Framing
Building its frame is the next step in building the solar panels. This frame will basically look like a sturdy box that can host all 35 solar cells.
You're free to choose what type of framing to employ (e.g., aluminum angle frame, timber frame, or copper frame). You are also free to use any types of board that would fit your preference. However, using metal sign boards is much recommended than timber boards as they're known to last longer against the harsh weather.
Building a plexiglass front is also an efficient way of protecting the solar cell from bad weather condition.
Step 4 – Solar Wiring Connection
The basic idea wiring the connection is to lay down all the solar cells adequately space from one another. Place down and position each cell with a tile space positioned in between. When this step is done your solar board should appear neat and uniform with all the cells and spacer evenly positioned.
Your next job is to position the soldered wire starting from the front of a particular cell until it reaches the solder point situated at the back of the other cell. Continue this process until you form a line of 9 cells all in all. Then repeat the process until you make three more additional lines containing 9 cells.
Of course, the arrangement of the cells will greatly depend on the design of your board, but the standard way of arranging it is 4 rows containing 9 solar cells.
Step 5 – Determining Amps, Volts, and Watts
When you are creating a solar panel, it is very important to identify the total amps, voltage, and wattage that your solar panels can produce.
The formula to remember here is Watts is equal to Volts times Amps. By learning two of the given formula, you can easily derive the third formula. Its equation goes like this:
Volts x Amps = Watts or Watts/Volts = Amps
180watts/18volts = 10amps
Step 6 – Situating your Solar Panel
The most ideal place to put your solar panel is on bright and sunny places where there is enough sunlight. Avoid shaded places as this can obstruct the absorption of solar light. The roof of the house is also a good place to put the solar board. Trees, especially large ones, play a major role in choosing the correct spot. |
