2012 Disaster Predictions: Let He Who Scoffs Beware!

There are many seers and prophets who have predicted that 2012, the year marking the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar cycle, will be associated with disasters that will visit the Earth and greatly reduce its population. And there are many scoffers who say the predictions are totally without merit, that life will go on as before, and even transform into a glorious future. People who believe the glorious future contradicts the predictions of doom are not reading the fine print. The seers who predict great tribulations also talk about a spiritual transformation, and. is that unreasonable? Does any great thing come without a price? Even childbirth comes amidst great pain and travails.

The Mayan Long Count Calendar began nearly 5,216 years ago during the lifetime of Seth, the son of Adam, according to the Jewish tradition. Seth was a great astronomer and passed on his wisdom to Noah and through the sons of Noah to the world. According to Jewish tradition, Seth is the father of the Mayan Long Count calendar. While Mayan tradition teaches that the transition to a new Sun-world, which will occur on Dec 21, 2012 and which occurs every 13 Baktuns is a great event, according to many the transition is accompanied by tribulations. After the beginning of the Long Count Calendar cycle, Jewish historical tradition describes a great flood that decimated humanity. Adam, the father of Seth predicted the flood and also predicted that later on the world would be destroyed by fire. Seth's grandson Kennan also predicted the world flood. According to some traditions, Kennan is buried on an Island in the Indian Ocean and on his gravestone are inscribed the words of his prediction about a great flood to come.

When Adam, Seth and Kennan and later Noah spoke about a flood that would decimate the world, most people scoffed at them. Tradition has it that Noah took a hundred years to build the ark. During that time, the world had a chance to repent and avert the great disaster. But they didn't. No one believed Noah, even when he closed up the ark and it began to rain. It wasn't until the waters started to rise that they took his words seriously and by then it was too late.

Today, many seers talk about fiery disasters that will strike the world, including nuclear war and global warming. Even earthquakes and tsunamis, as we saw recently in Japan, can cause devastating fires, such as have occurred at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. The predictions spolen by the Hopi Indians, Nostradamus, The Rosicrucian's and modern seer Friend G. follow in an ancient tradition started by Adam, and should not be dispensed with as mere hype as some have tried to do. Surely the world will move into a new cycle of time, a new glorious epic of transformation and personal connection between man and the Universe. Yet people shouldn't forget that these good things will follow a time of trial, tribulation and disaster, which will prepare people for their noble future.
