The Confusing Problem of Migraine Headaches
|
It could possibly be a fair guess that all people has suffered the pain of a headache. Migraine headaches are certainly not the ordinary run of the mill variety of headache. I had a period when much younger, and I used to get migraines approximately once a month. I don't have them, but I can inform you they are tremendously painful experiences. It is somewhat intriguing that headaches, and specifically migraines, are not fully understood by the medical community. There are hundreds of factors, if not more, and one very perplexing factor is the people have diverse pain feelings. But there is considerably more to this story which is challenging and has many pieces to it.
Even so, just like with so many topics in medicine, a lot is identified about migraine headaches. This type of headache is occasionally referred to as a vascular headache. Seemingly either very low or high temperatures may induce a migraine event. Next there are people who can get this type of headache if they encounter excessive sleep loss or too much hunger. All this suggests that there are external causes for migraines in a few people. We talked about several areas, previously, but there are others for example chronic stress.
Relating to the intense pain, migraines are unique because the pain seems to take longer to build up. However, that is just another clue about migraines, but every last piece of the puzzle helps. It seems that the present-day situation is that doctors have a lot of data from which they can try to use. Over 50 % of people who get migraines seem to have close relatives who also have this problem which implies a possible genetic influence. That can point to other potential causes such as environmental triggers that produce the same effect.
Swings in the levels of hormones can bring on these headaches in certain women. There is a percentage of women who can have difficulties either right before or promptly after their monthly period cycle. In these situations, doctors are mindful of changes in estrogen levels. Additional periods of hormone alterations consist of menopause and certainly pregnancy. A number of women will very likely have a higher frequency of migraine problems during these periods. It could be important to note that the procedure called HRT, hormonal replacement therapy, can make migraines more painful than they already are. But the thing that brings about some difficulty is that these findings are not universal; they do not manifest for all women who experience migraines.
There is a wide variety of migraine inducers like music that is too loud, or excessively bright lights, and even typical odors from chemicals and other regular smells. So there is no obvious single cause that might be pinpointed with this condition. Still there are physical reasons with some people such as intensive physical exertion of pretty much any kind. All of that helps make unraveling the enigma of migraines a lot more difficult. |
