How to survive in a hotel.

An unavoidable part of working life for many men and women is travelling. To those who do not travel as part of their jobs, the thought of getting away courtesy of work may sound like a glamorous perk but the reality is often very different.

Travelling away from home on a regular basis puts you at the mercy of the place that you are staying – and the likelihood is that you are more likely to be spending the night at a motel and not the Four Seasons.

While most experienced travellers can quickly and efficiently pack all their necessities into carry-on baggage, there are some who will never get it right, pack too much or too little, struggle with their bags and still arrive in the dead of night at their hotel with no toothbrush.

Happily, many motels and hotels offer hotel toiletries for just this occasion and if not, then there will be toilet vending machines where you will be able to stock up on a few necessary items until the shops open.

The quality of hotel toiletries is an excellent signifier of what budget your company has allocated for your trip away. If you haven’t heard of the brand that has manufactured the mini-shampoo and conditioner or if it has the word ‘luxury’ or ‘spa’ in its name then the chances are that the budget for your trip away was quite small indeed.

However, if the products are discreet and effective, for example the body wash doesn’t leave your skin feeling as though you have bathed in turpentine, then you either have a very generous employer or are about to get a promotion.

When choosing items from toilet vending machines you are better off judging the quality of products and using the best available. Your skin and hair are probably better off being a little bit dirty then stripped of all their natural oils. Good luck!
