There are as many different types of people who enter the world of acting as there are diverse types of actor. Some are straight from school and want to get started straightaway without spending time at drama school. Others have had successful careers and are now able to afford to semi-retire with no financial pressure. To them, acting is half job, half hobby. There are others who don’t feel able to do anything other than act and finally make the decision to focus fully on an acting career.
Whatever your background is, one of the first lessons that you need to learn is that acting is a business not a leisure pursuit. As an actor you are self-employed. There are many different levels within the acting profession and an awareness of where you are and how you progress to the next stage is vital.
The key to getting work is auditions. The business of getting those auditions is often far harder than people realise. There are open auditions for some roles but even hearing about those auditions is not straightforward. There are also many casting calls which require you to submit a CV and head shot. The casting director will then decide who they are going to bring in for audition.
Every meeting with a casting director is a step up the ladder. Even if you are not right for the parts you have auditioned for, it is an opportunity to show the casting director what you can do. The key then is to find out about casting calls so that you can apply for the jobs.
At Audition Now, we have made it our business to find out about the casting calls that are happening. Whether you are interested in working in television, theatre or modelling we will keep you updated with the latest acting auditions.
