How to Paint a Wall

When you are planning to paint a wall, you will first need to get set up. There are a few things you should do. Spread plastic sheets over the floor, especially if you have carpeting or nice hardwood floors. This will protect them from any paint splatters. You may also want to use plastic sheets to cover and protect any wall cladding.
Next, open a couple of windows, or if there aren’t any windows in the room, leave the door open and open windows in other parts of the house so that there is plenty of air flow.
Purchase your paint and primer. You can find paint at hardware stores and DIY stores. Choose a neutral or pale colour as these tend to go with almost any décor.
Use a coat of primer on the walls before you start painting. Primer should also be used to cover up any marks on the walls. Once you are ready for the paint, use a large paint brush to paint around door and window frames and in the corners of all the walls, avoiding the wall cladding, skirting boards, or trim, before you even start with the paint roller.
When you use the roller, try to paint evenly in a thin layer. Don’t soak up too much paint on the sponge or you will wind up with lumpy or textured areas on the wall. Try to keep painting until you have done one whole layer. If you leave some of it to dry and then go back it may look uneven. Do two coats of paint over your primer.
Once you are done, makes sure to allow the paint to dry thoroughly, preferably over night or for twenty-four hours. Leave notes up that say “wet paint” to avoid people touching the wall by accident.
