What makes a good website.

If you are in the process of designing or building your own website or you are just curious about what it takes to make a successful website, then you will be interested to know that it isn’t luck or happy accident that some websites are more successful than others.

To think about what it takes to make a good website you could spend a few minutes thinking about your own experiences with the web. Why do you go online and what are you looking for on there?

Nine times out of ten you are looking for information, whether it is something obscure (a poem that you can only remember the first line of) or something concrete (what films are showing at your local cinema this weekend).

So it follows that the most valuable key to the success of your website is information: quality, correct and useful information. If you disappoint visitors on this they will be slow to forgive and may never return to your site. Make sure information is correct, up to date and correctly edited and if you are using references you should say where and when and from whom the information was taken from.

You might have a veritable wealth of information on your website, loaded up when it was launched, but since you haven’t checked the site yourself for a few weeks or months what you don’t know is that it is full of broken links so no one can find all that useful information.

You must regularly check that links work and that your site is accessible and not taking too long to load. Loading problems would need to be taken up with your web host: contact UK web hosting by EUKHost or the other web host you joined for help. Website hosting by EUKHost should include a dedicated customer services team to help in times like these – if your current web host does not offer 24/7 support you should research website hosting by EUKHost or UK web hosting by EUKHost to find someone that does.

Finally, it all comes together with the design. You don’t have to have the prettiest site but it helps if your site is concisely written, attractive to look at and clear in its purpose.
Good luck!
