The city of Agra needs no introduction. It is world famous for being the home to symbol of love- The Taj Mahal. Situated in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, this city is a great history. This city was founded by Sikandar Lodhi of Lodhi Dynasty. Agra for many decades was the capital city of the great Moguls. The history of that golden period can be revisited by touring Agra and seeing the monuments and buildings constructed by Moguls. The most famous among them is Taj Mahal. Built by Mogul emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his late wife Mumtaz Mahal, the beautiful white monument is situated on the bank of river Yamuna. But Mughlai food is not the only specialty of Agra food, snacks of various kinds and sweets are also very popular here. Chaat, Golgappe and Dahi Bhalle are famous street foods. One can savor them in Sadar market. Delicious kababs on streets of Agra is a common sight but the taste of those kababs is rare. While in Agra one cannot afford to miss it. Agra is very famous for Petha- a sweet made out of pumpkin. Panchi Petha shop is the oldest and most famous sweet shop in Agra. This shop has many branches all over India but the one in Agra is authentic and serves the best Pethas.

Shopping in Agra is a luxury which every tourist must indulge into. Agra is famous for handicraft items. Home decorative items, traditional clothes and jewelries are very famous in Agra market. Meena Bazaar is adjacent to Taj Mahal and is one of the oldest markets in India. As the legend goes, Meena Bazaar was the market for royal ladies of Mougls. Traders from all over world used to come here with precious jewels and expensive clothes. The tradition still continues.

A trip to the city of Agra is a must for every tourist coming to India. Agra is an ideal tourist destination. With historical monuments, vibrant markets and amazing food this city is a tourist’s paradise. The best time to visit Agra is during August to April.
