Water based adhesives

Adhesive known also as glue is a mix of liquid or semi liquid substances that adheres or bonds items together. There have been many researches done to create adhesive that bonds items and the type of items that can be bonded are limitless. Therefore there are different types of adhesive that are used to bond different kind of items. My grandfather used to use cooked rice smashed to mend the kites that we use to fly, and believe me it really worked well; it is basically the starch in the rice that works as an adhesive. As for the history of glue the earliest date for simple glue is 200,000 BC and for compound glue is 70,000 BC. In the most resent and the current age we have come up with Water-Based Glues and Adhesives.

The water based adhesive is referred to as waterborne adhesive and they are made from natural polymers or soluble synthetic polymer. The Natural Polymers come from vegetables like dextrin, starches, from proteins like casein, corn, fish, soybeans, milk albumen, and animals parts like hides, bones etc. The soluble synthetic polymer includes cellulose ethers, polyvinylpyrrolidone, carboxymethylcellulose, etc. The water based adhesives are commonly used to bond paper, make gummed adhesive tapes, used as wall paper paste, bottle labeling, cardboards, wood and base material for moisture-activated bonding.

The advantage of using water based adhesive is that it is made from naturally occurring substances which removes the use of volatile and combustible materials. The manufacturing of water based adhesive is safe unlike other adhesive where the manufacturer is at a risk of fire and explosion during manufacturing industrial use adhesives. The worker and the consumers are spared from the effect of toxins as by eliminating the solvents in the adhesive the toxicity of the adhesive is reduced. The disadvantage of manufacturing water based adhesive is the adhesive generates a lot of wastewater. It also utilizes more energy in manufacturing than a solvent based adhesive. All types of adhesive are available in the market in spite of the advantages and the disadvantages. The best utilization of adhesive is to use the right type of adhesive for bonding the item. Considering the best adhesive that are available from the market according to your requirement.
