Remote Controlled Helicopters Explained
|
Rather than being an expensive child’s toy, remote controlled helicopters are an advanced piece of machinery. They are also surprisingly inexpensive for some of the beginner models and even the more advanced aerobatic and lightweight models can be found at very competitive prices on the Internet. Master the basics of helicopter flight with 4 channel remote controlled helicopters and you can move on to complete more advanced stunts and manoeuvres with a 6 channel model.
Weight
Weight tends to determine strength with RC helicopters. The lighter models are especially effective at flips and other advanced moves, but they are also much more prone to damage. If you don’t handle a flip or other move properly, then there is a chance that you will lose control of your vehicle and it will crash. Lightweight models are best for those that already have good knowledge of flying remote controlled helicopters.
Channels
Typically, you can choose between 4 and 6 channels. Each channel provides you with control over specific movement and a 4 channel helicopter allows you to control the yaw, altitude, and movement forwards, backwards, and side to side. This provides you with adequate manoeuvrability to get the grasp of the basics. 6 channel remote controlled helicopters enable you to perform more complex stunts.
Aerobatic Helicopters
Aerobatic helicopters are specially designed for pulling off aerobatic and incredible looking stunts. This can include flips and means that the helicopter needs to be set up so that it is lightweight and offers 6 channels. Do make sure that you are competent at the basics before progressing to this style of RC helicopter but if you are ready to make the move up then aerobatic helicopters can provide a lot of opportunity and entertainment.
Choosing The Right Remote Controlled Helicopters
If you’re intrigued by remote controlled helicopters and are just starting out then you should look for a beginner RC. These are slightly heavier giving them extra strength and are 4 channel so that you can get to grips with hovering and moving, which are essential if you want to be able to fly your remote controlled helicopters in more complex patterns and manouvers. |
