Sciatica And Exercises - Take Full Advantage Of Warm Water

Sciatica And Exercises sounded like an oxymoron to me at first.. But really, though bed rest may be a very good idea when you are experiencing an acute sciatica flare up, when going on too long it'll do you more harm than good (too long is more than a couple of days). The best thing for you is to get going with your normal routines as soon as possible (while you'll avoid the kinds of movements that got you into trouble).

When your first pain has subsided some you should seriously work towards different kinds of treatments for your sciatica and exercises can be really helpful, in accordance with the underlying cause of your sciatica. What may do one condition a world of good may seriously aggravate a different condition. Once you are ready to lauch yourself into the treatment of your sciatica, and exercises are a great help, make sure to take this step first: You always need to consult a back specialist before setting out on your new exercise routine, to see when and with what frequency you should start exercising and which exercises would actually be good for you.

Now that I've said that, I'd like to take a closer look at a certain kind of sciatica and exercises that will most likely be on of the most beneficial treatments for your sciatica: warm water exercises. Though it is true that during an acute flare up of your sciatica cold should rather be applied instead of warmth, once the first pain has simmered down and the healing process has started warm water therapy is very beneficial in several ways.

Soaking in warm water will help relax you, it also increases blood flow and will help to soften up tightened muscles. Warm water will help to speed up your healing process. It'll augment your range of movement, since warm water makes tight muscles more pliable. You might want to take a warm bath before beginning the treatment of your sciatica and exercises (don't overdo it, since at some point your body temperature will rise too high).

Now being relaxed and with loosened muscles, you could do some water exercises. These exercises are a lot easier to do than the normal kind of kinds of treatments for sciatica and exercises, since being suspended in water takes most of the pressure from your weight off your spine, muscles, disks, ligaments and joints; it also lowers the pain associated with some of the exercises, especially in the beginning, when there is still some stiffness, and the fear of possible pain, which in itself can make you tense up.

The water's density will make your muscles work harder while simultaneously it'll reduce the stress for your entire body. Even just walking or marching in water can help reduce muscle pain and spasms.

Treatment of sciatica and exercises in warm water and water in general are a great point to start out on exercises altogether, be it after a sciatica flare up or for some other cause of back pain. Exercises in warm water are some of the most beneficial treatments for sciatica and exercises. You get the reduction of inflammation due to increased circulation on one hand and the strengthening of the muscles on the other hand that you will need to keep your spine and sciatic nerve in good shape.

In addition to water exercises there is a wide variety of regimens for sciatica and exercises you can work you way up to step by step. But before starting your back exercises (now that you've spoken to your physician and know which exercises are for your condition), make sure you always start with 5 minutes of warm up; like taking a short walk or using the exercise bike, or even just march in place.

At first you probably should only be doing gentle back stretching exercises and then gradually extend into back and abdomen strength building exercises. Also add some low impact aerobics to your routine at some point. If you find a good balance of all these exercises and you will use a wide variety of muscle groups, which in turn will prevent future flare ups.

To sum it up: Sciatica and exercises go together, if you want to see long term relief from your painful sciatica. Just be sure you have consulted your physician before starting your exercises or to self-treat your symptoms and underlying causes for your sciatica, to make sure you know which kinds of treatments you can, should and shouldn't do.

Author Resource:- 1,000,000 missed workdays a year in the US alone caused by lower back pain and related symptoms. Seventy to ninety percent of the population experiences back problems at some point. When you are ready to finally step out of the above statistics and beat your sciatica and exercises are to be part of it, go to sciatica and exercises, to find fast, safe and effective help.
