Egyptian Armed Forces Announce Reforming Cabinet

New ministers in Egypt's caretaker government were sworn in on Tuesday before head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Hussein Tantawi, the country's state TV reported.

Key portfolios of interior, defense, justice, foreign, finance and environment remained unchanged in the reshuffled cabinet, while, Yehia El Gamal, a member of Egypt's "wiseman committee" and professor of constitutional law, was posted as a deputy of the prime minister.

Ministers from the following ministries have been replaced, including immigration and manpower, communications and information technology, heath, petroleum, social justice and solidarity, trade and industry, tourism, culture and education which annexed the former high education ministry.

The new caretaker cabinet set up a ministry of scientific research.

The first cabinet reshuffle after the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces took the responsibility to run the country in the six months transition period, excluded prominent figures of the National Democratic Party (NDP), but included an opposition member from El Wafd Party as minister of tourism.

Tantawi has held a meeting with the new ministers to discuss the recent issues, urging them for better communication with the people.

Tantawi asserted the importance of collective working, saying " this is a serious situation and we need to exert more efforts for the sake of citizens and Egypt."
