Copywriting Tips that Work

It's no surprise that a lot of the more accomplished internet marketers did their own copywriting. Some of them had direct response business experience, and others had other forms of marketing backgrounds; but one thing about all of them is they learned about copywriting and wrote for themselves. Peel away everything in the business process, and you're left with selling with words; and copywriting is simply selling something using words. The only thing that a possible buyer has to look at is your words; there's no salesman or anyone on the phone talking to them. Beyond sales letters, copywriting lends itself to many other areas such as web copy, article writing, email copy, classified ad copy, etc. We'd like to share some very effective copywriting tips you can actually use later on today if you need to.

To persuade readers with your sales copy, you must reach them emotionally. If you are targeting people with a certain problem, your copy should make them believe that your product is the solution. You really want them to make an impulsive decision to make the purchase at that moment, and for this you have to reach their emotions. You can't write copy that's monotonous, it has to be compelling and fascinating. You have to understand that copy is aimed at motivating prospects to do take a specific action, not just telling them something because you feel like it. This doesn't mean you should lie or exaggerate about your product; stay within ethical bounds. Stick to the truth about your product, but also make your arguments emotionally convincing. Express sympathy with your readers' situation and make them feel you are not very different from them. This way they can feel like they know you better, so they are less cautious and defensive.

Your headline is probably the single most important part of your copy, as this is where you initially make contact with your prospects and capture their interest. So learning to write a profit pulling headline is a great skill that will help your sales letter stand out. Apart from that, you'll be writing numerous sub-headlines throughout your sales copy, which is why it's important to know how to write them effectively. By studying headlines from magazines and other printed media, you can get a feel for how they are created. You can also look at headlines on websites and online sales letters for further research. Your headline can actually be the factor that determines if your copy converts or doesn't.

You always want to stick to words with a positive impact on readers, such as incredible, happy, money, you (rather than "I") or wealthy. Your aim here is to sell the benefits of your product, not the features. And when you use such strong words in your copy, you make your prospects feel happy and special. You can't really write good copy without some hype, just stay within the boundaries of honesty.

Of course, there's a ton more that goes into copy that sells, but these several copywriting tips are a good start for you. You can improve as a copywriter, or at least writing your own copy, but it takes time and patience. If you're starting out with copywriting, aim at creating an attention grabbing copy that focuses on the benefits more than anything else. There are fields of study related to copywriting, so it's a good idea to try to learn some things from those areas.
