Small business Smart marketing.

Running a small business is hard work, as anyone who does it will tell you. But owning and running your own business also has its own rewards, which include being your own boss, living your dreams and enjoying seeing your ideas come to fruition.
Owners of small businesses shouldn’t cast aside their responsibility to market themselves. If you are the owner of a small business and you think that advertising is only for big banks, airplanes and huge jewellery companies then think again.

Small business advertising is essential quite simply because it gets your name out there. Think of all the prospective clients and customers in your local area that haven’t even heard of you. While word of mouth may be great advertising when it works for you, you cannot rely on your best customers to do your marketing for you.

So how should you go about small business advertising? The first thing you could do, especially if you have just opened, is hold an open night. Let everyone in the area know that you are having an open night (such as friends, neighbours and local radio and newspapers) giving people a chance to come in and view your great products and have a chat about your services.

This is such a useful tool in small business marketing because it doesn’t only illustrate your commitment, but it adds a buzz to the neighbourhood and it gives people a chance to come into your premises when they might not normally be able to.

Getting together with other small businesses is another essential part of small business marketing. You could either go halves with another business on a direct mail drop, share an open night with the shop in front of you (what about the whole street!) or pay for an A-frame board in the street advertising both of your businesses.

The whole reason you got into working for yourself was to make things happen, right? Time to adopt that attitude to your marketing and watch the results!
