Fun with number plates

When it comes to purchasing personalised number plates, there are endless options when choosing your ideal number plate. A lot of motorists want their number plate to be meaningful, a lot have names, dates and even football teams as part of their plate. Personalised number plates are certainly a good way of conveying part of a person’s character in an unusual way.

However, although many people opt for number plates that represent their first name, their initials or surname, a number plate doesn’t always have to have meaning. Some people may just want a number plate that makes them and others laugh. The fact that number plates are made sequentially, and without any editing, means that quite a few unintentionally humorous number plates have been made over the years. Certain number plates have been removed by the registration authorities as they are simply deemed too offensive. From earlier number plates with two initials, the DVLA banned anything with the letters ER because it signified royalty.

There are some funny plates that authorities have removed but not before someone has had some fun with them. One of the funniest plates has come from the United States where a motorist tried to have the number plate “3M3TIB”. Now while this might look harmless enough, a policeman who saw this in their rear view mirror saw “BITEME”!

Another one that was spotted by authorities but not cancelled was “DOBEE”, this was initially viewed as slang term for a joint but was later found to be part of an old expression.

Whether you are looking for a funny or meaningful personalised number plate, then at Platinum Plates we are the place to visit. We supply a wide range of plates and provide an excellent search facility that lets you easily find the perfect plate for you.
