December 21, 2012 and the Approach to Xibalba the Mayan "Black Road"

On December 21, 2012 the Mayan Long Count Calendar will come to an end. This intricate time keeping system, developed by the astronomical savvy Mayans, ends with the simultaneous occurrence of the Winter Solstice and the alignment of the Earth-Sun axis with the horizontal axis of the Milky Way.
Our Sun and its solar system, rotate around the center of the Milky Way every 240 million years. In the night sky this great galaxy we live in appears as a cluster of stars surrounded by clouds of white gaseous material. In the center of the disc shaped formation is a black streak which the ancient Mayans called Xibalba be or "Black Road." Today, scientists know this to be a giant black hole called Sagittarius A. The hole is seen just next to the constellation of the same name.
As the Sun rotates around the black hole, it sometimes travels below the horizontal axis of the galaxy and sometimes above it. Currently the Sun, is traveling about 2 degrees above the horizontal axis. The horizontal plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun is at a 60 degree angle with the horizontal plane passing through the central axis of the galaxy, so during the course of the year, the Earth Sun axis sometimes falls above the horizontal axis of the galaxy and sometimes below it. Twice a year the Earth-Sun axis appears to fall directly on the galaxy's horizontal axis.
There is another cycle, which is caused by a wobble in the axis of the Earth. This slow wobble changes the orientation of the axis of the earth with respect to the Sun. This axis is always tilted with respect to the Sun so that as the Earth rotates around the sun the helical rays sometimes are closer to the Northern Hemisphere and sometimes closer to the Southern Hemisphere. Because of the wobble, there is a slight progressive change in the location the Earth along its orbit where the seasons change. This progressive change is called the procession of the equinoxes. If you examine the Earth-Sun axis you will find that the place where this axis meets the zodiac belt changes over the centuries. Right now on the first day of spring this axis falls into the constellation Pisces. Each year it is moving slightly closer to the constellation Aquarius. Every 25,765 the axis travels through all the constellations and comes back to its starting spot. If you see where the axis falls on the first day of winter, you will find it is in the constellation Sagittarius, very close to the star at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.
Because of this seasonal positioning, on December 21, 2012 the Earth-Sun axis will fall exceedingly close to the center of the Milky Way. There will actually be, therefore, a triple alignment. It is the winter solstice, the earth Sun axis will fall on the horizontal axis of the Milky Way and the Sun will be in the constellation Sagittarius exceedingly close to the star known as the center of the Milky Way and the dark hole known as Sagittarius A.
This concordance of cycles is actually even more amazing than it might seem. As noted above the Earth-Sun axis crosses the horizontal axis of the Milky Way only twice a year. The season this occurs in rotates because of the procession of the Equinoxes. But what if the axis currently crossed the horizontal plane of the Milky Way in March and September. In that case the time when the axis lines up with the horizontal axis of the Milky Way would not correspond to the time when the Sun will be in Sagittarius and the Earth-Sun axis will point to the center of the Milky Way. If that were the case there would not be a triple alignment as is about to take place in Dec, 21, 2012.
The Mayans knew about the dark hole at the center of the Milky Way, and their calculations indicated they knew about the procession of the equinoxes, since their current Calendar cycle of close to 5125.36 years ends with this important astronomical event. The dark hole at the center of our Galaxy had great significance for the Mayans. They called it the door to the underground. .Evil lurked there. On the other hand it has a positive function. In Mayan cosmology we are currently in the fifth sun world.As we move into the sixth sun world, the Sun "Kinich-Ahau" will appear to pass close to the dark rift. As it does so, it will receive a spark of light from within the Black Road so as to once again set things in motion on the new "sixth sun world"
The fifth sun world was the world of water, the next sun world will be the world of air. Mayans teach that the transition from one world to the next is accompanied by cataclysms. It is comforting, and perhaps essentially true, to believe that these cataclysms will be psychic and not material, however, they could be both. Religions teach that in the centuries after the last transition, to the world of water, there was a great flood which destroyed most of the Earth. The same traditions say, with respect to future calamities, that the next devastation of the Earth will come through fire."
