'Hawthorn Tree' Actors Attend Berlinale
|
Chinese art-house film "Under the Hawthorn Tree" ("Shan Zha Shu Zhi Lian") was screened at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival on February 12. Lead actors Zhou Dongyu (Jing Qiu) and Shawn Dou (Lao San) attended the screening.
Director Zhang Yimou didn't appear in Berlin due to the shooting of his new movie, a war story about the Nanjing Massacre in 1937.
"Under the Hawthorn Tree" is adapted from a popular novel of the same name. It tells a pure love story of two young people during the Cultural Revolution in China (1966-1976).
The film pocketed 146 million yuan (about US$20.86 million) from box office revenue.
This year, the film was invited to be screened at the Generation 14Plus section of the Berlinale, a section especially made for children and youth.
