|
South Korea's Samsung Electronics, the world's second-largest mobile phone maker, rolled out Monday a new smartphone and a tablet computer.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S II, an update to its popular Galaxy S, and the fresh tablet computer Galaxy Tab 10.1 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company said in a statement.
Both the new phone and the tablet are larger and faster than their predecessors, running Google's Android operating system, Samsung added. "The Galaxy S II is a natural and powerful evolution of the Galaxy S. In 2011, we will take Samsung's leadership in speed, screen and content to a whole new level," Shin Jong-kyun, president of Samsung's mobile communications business, said.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is expected to compete with Apple's iPad as the size of the newly introduced tablet, at 10.1 inches, is similar to iPad's 9.7 inches.
