Ensuring safety in pipe fitting applications

In both modern and developing economies, pipe-based modes of gas and petrochemical transfer are commonplace, either as a means of supply or as a way of improving industrial efficiency. Those responsible for managing both large and small pipe transfer networks know only too well that they cannot afford any second chances when it comes to the safety and security of these pipes; any leakage or breakage in a pipe would almost certainly spell disaster for members of the public or for a company’s workforce.

There are therefore stringent efforts that need to be made to try and ensure that all pipe fittings and connecting and reinforcing flanges are firmly and irrevocably welded together. This process is greatly helped by using secure pre-weld connections such as male and female, and, tongue and groove.

At the same time, the pipe fittings chosen for the project will need to be constructed from a metal able to withstand the threat of corrosion. The pipe metal selected will depend on the specific dangers of corrosion from both inside and outside the pipe; in other words not only from the substance being transferred, but also from the impact of the specific environment in which the pipe is located.

Attempts to minimise the potential for corrosion will also need to be balanced against the relative costs of such measures; it may be that a cheaper metal, whilst not possessing as many benefits as a more expensive version, can still fulfil the necessary anti-corrosion requirements for a particular project.

At Chemipetro we can provide a range of pipes, pipe fittings and flanges in a variety of sizes and materials. Having served the oil, gas and petrochemical industries successfully over the years our expert advice will be invaluable in helping companies improve business efficiencies whilst maintaining safety standards.
