Linear Actuator to Create Linear Motion for Better Performance

Linear actuator as the name indicates is used in creating linear motion in special devices for their better performance. Though these types of actuators come in many varied forms, yet in this article, we would discuss about the mechanical linear actuator and how it helps in converting rotary motion into linear motion.

As has been mentioned above, the mechanical line actuator operates in the simple operating system by converting of rotary motion into linear motion. There are many methods involved in the conversion method. Some of the common mechanisms are as follows:

Screw

This type of linear actuator come in many different forms that include the screw jack, ball screw and roller screw actuators. They are rotated with the help of the threads in them, which make the screw shaft move in a line.

Wheel and Axle

The actuators that come under this category function on the principle of the wheel and the axle, which may consists of a gear, drum, pulley or a shaft. The actuators that come under this category range from hoist, winch, rack and pinion, to chain drive etc.

Cam

Then there are the linear cam actuators that operate just like that of a wedge, but accounts for limited travel time. As a wheel-like cam rotates, its eccentric shape provides thrust at the base of a shaft. While some actuators in this category pull, others are used to push the devices for better performance.

One good example of using linear actuator method is the jack screw or the car jack, which we use almost every day in our cars and vehicles. Other common uses of the mechanical actuator are in the field of lasers and optics for manipulating important positioning instruments.

Linear Motor and Linear Actuator

So, what is a linear motor and what relation does it have with a linear actuator? Well, it is nothing but a rotary electric motor that does not require conversion to linear motion as it is already laid down on flat surface. However, it is to be mentioned here that the material and/or motor limitations on most designs come with limitations, which can be surpassed quickly for getting the best performances. Additionally, most linear motors have a low load capacity when compared to other types of linear actuators.

Where to Find Linear Actuators?

You can find the best linear actuators from the online destination. Indeed, availing them online will get you the best devices for better motion control. Also, you can get linear motor online known for their simple design that come with minimum moving parts for better performance.
