Great Ideas for Baby Shower Cakes

For husbands or close friends, if you are given the task of preparing baby shower cakes, you have to make it extra special. You can express your deepest congratulations to the soon-to-be mom by buying a cake from your favorite bakeshop. But you can reach an extra mile by designing the cake yourself! Even if you do not know the gender of the baby, you can make beautiful cakes by using themes bases on ordinary baby items.

The first step is to plan how and when to make the cake. Browse the web or cook books for the cake's recipe. It is smart to have at least three recipes, especially for baking novices. Before baking the actual cake, you can first have a dry run with the three recipes.

Decorating baby shower cakes is the most fun part. Remember that, with foods, good looks make them taste better. Think of TV characters, famous cartoon icons of mom and baby, perhaps a chicken and a chick or a mother duck and a duckling. Visit bakeware shops for custom molds and icing tubes. With different icing tubes, you can decorate your cake easily with intricate designs of leaves and flowers. You can also change the color of the dough by adding food-coloring. Here are some ideas on cake shapes and toppers:

Baby Blocks

This is an appealing centerpiece for any baby shower party. To top that, it is very easy to make. You just need cubic molds of uniform or varying sizes. The technique here is to give each cube a different color of frosting. To give you an idea, use powder blue and light pink. You can also add letters and numbers to the blocks, making them more similar with real baby blocks. For smaller baby blocks, you can pile dozens of cubes together. You can lay them on a three-by-three square. Of course, you can add toppers like small porcelain figurines.

Baby Crib and Baby Carriage

Don't turn down the idea of making a baby carriage cake because it seems difficult. In fact, it is very easy to do. In making baby shower cakes, you can combine smaller cakes to come up with a new design. To make a baby-push cart, you will need three ordinary round cakes. One of them must be large, while the other two must have a diameter half of the first cake. The large circle will be the body of the cart, while the two smaller ones will serve as wheels. Cut two adjacent semi-circles on one side of the large cake. These semi-circles must allow the smaller cakes to snuggly fit.

With proper frosting, you can pull off the trick. Dress the entire assembly with pink frosting. Then, use white frosting to design the wheels. Also, use white frosting to cover the top of the largest cake. Imagining it as a pie, leave the upper right slice without frosting. This will reveal the pink base. This will serve as the opening of the baby carriage. You can also write your message here. To add highlights to your baby shower cakes, you can add a baby topper, sculpted from white chocolate.
