Hall Runners are perfect for the Party Season.

A friend of mine would love to have a party for New Year, but she is very
house proud. She is worried that her new carpets will get dirty. She has
recently had fitted carpets throughout her house, and at the moment they are
in pristine white. At one point she did consider putting down plastic mats,
but these would spoil the whole look of her house. I suggested the perfect
solution – hall runners. She is ecstatic about the idea and is now busy
planning her New Year’s party.
Whether you have a fitted carpet or wood or laminate flooring, hall runners
are the perfect way to protect your valuable floor and add a little dash of
luxury to your entrance hall and landings. My friend has ordered a hall
runner in a traditional Persian design. The base colour is red and this is
going to look stunning on her white carpet. As she has a very long hallway
she has chosen a runner which is ten feet long, but of course you can get
hall runners which are much shorter than that. Some of them can even be used
as mats in your living room or dining room if you do not want them
permanently in your hall. In my opinion, though, they really make an
entrance way look classy.
In this snowy weather my friend keeps complaining about boots and shoes
bringing mud into the house. She is exceptionally house-proud and when I
explained to her how easy hall runners are to keep clean she was immediately
committed to the idea. Once the mud has dried, she will be able to quickly
vacuum it up and her patterned hall runner will look as good as new. Every
spring she has her carpets professionally cleaned, but a hall runner doesn’t
really need this if you vacuum it regularly.
For the more relaxed amongst us, hall runners are useful in the party season
as they are kept looking good with the minimum of effort. We all like our
homes to look welcoming when we have guests. I put the decorations up at
Christmas and keep them up until 12th Night, with a holly wreath on the
door. Then when I open the door to my visitors my hall runner is ready for
them to walk in, making the entranceway look as welcoming as the rest of my
house. Once they have had a warming glass of mulled wine, they then feel
right at home, thanks to my hall runner and the wine. I prefer to have
friends round than to have a house which looks perfect all the time, but
with my welcoming hall runners and those on my landings, I can have the best
of both worlds.
My friend has ordered her new hall runner and has already invited me to her
first party. Mine is planned and the invitations have gone out. Meanwhile I
have already had some unplanned gatherings when the snow came down and some
work colleagues were stuck away from home. I was pleased to welcome them,
knowing that my hall runners would soon clean up afterwards. |
