Metal Roofing – The Ins, The Outs
|
A high regarded claim was once made that metal roofs contract more lightening strikes than traditional roofing, this is false. Your home is in no more danger of getting struck by lightning with a metal top then a traditional home is, as a matter of fact, metal roofing would actually destroy the lightening as it struck your home, something a "normal" roof could not do.
Another false statement is that metal roofing somehow makes a lot more noise when it rains. People need to get it out of their heads that having a metal roof is like living in a broken down old barn, though this may have been the case about a hundred years ago, in the modern day and age this has been rectified. "How?" you might ask, well it's simple; most metal roofing is actually applied on a pre-existing roof made out of the traditional fabrics/materials of roofing, because of this you would actually garner a lack of rain drop noises coming through your roof because of how tight it covers the "under roof" hollowing out most annoying sounds.
One of the biggest sets of misinformation is that metal roofs rust just as quick as any other loose metal, this simply is not true. This also brings out the sediment of over a hundred years ago, it may have been true then but not now. All metal roofs are built to last not five years but decades before they have the potential of giving out, but the same cannot be said for a traditional roofed house. How is this possible? These metal tops are made with an extra protection layer consisting of zinc and aluminum made to withstand even some of the toughest of rain storms and winter weather; they are literally built to last.
Dispelling two other misinformation are the costs of a metal roof and denting problems. Although it may appear expensive, metal roofs are actually cheaper to get than normal roofs, not only that but it also increases the value of the home giving you well-deserved compensation when other roofs will not. And also, your metal roof cannot dent even if the worst abuse imaginable is concocted against it, as where other homes in your neighborhood have more of a chance of a cave-in than you do of a denting; it's just something that's not possible with a metal roof.
So before you speak against a metal roof, look at the facts: they're actually much safer and more reliable than a traditional roof, just keep that in mind if you're house hunting.
