We used to have more time for everything. Back in the day, people would think nothing of writing out wedding invitations by hand one by one, sealing them out and posting them out a few months before the big day. Inevitably, with the age of the Internet well and truly upon us, practices like this are becoming less common. We're used to rapid, even instant messaging. Not waiting days for the post to turn up. Electronic wedding invites are quick, easy and personal. It's no wonder the traditional invitation is on the wane.
Electronic wedding invites are definitely here to stay. Once you've designed your invite have you thought about how you're going to distribute it to all your prospective guests? Yes e cards are convenient, but they're no good if you don't have a list of email addresses to send them to. Getting an up to date list can be a real pain and major obstacle to sending electronic wedding invites.
So what's the solution? Well, we live in an age of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. The happy couple can post details of their wedding online to inform people that way. Another popular option is to create a special customised website all about the wedding and publicise the event by advertising the site's URL.
Whichever method you choose you're going to have to make special provision for guests who don't use the Internet. Electronic wedding invites will work for the vast majority of people, but let's not forget older guests who may not be online.
So when you're planning your special day, by all means use technology to help make planning and organising your wedding more efficient and effective. Use it to make invitations more fun and personal, but remember the limitations of technology and show consideration to guests who aren't so IT literate. |
