Forget the magic sponge - get a first aid kit instead

Injuries happen in sports. There are some activities where you just have to accept a certain element of risk. So it's always best to plan for any eventuality should a serious incident occur. Of course, some sports are inherently more dangerous than others. In the UK an ambulance has to be present when a game of gridiron is played. The same is not true of table tennis.

First aid for sports is much more sophisticated now than it ever was. Gone are the day of patching players up or giving them cortisone shots to get through the game. Equipment, skills and knowledge are much further advanced and players are a lot safer as a result. However, there is never any room for complacency, at any level. Sports supports too have been transformed beyond all recognition. Materials like neoprene, similar to what you find in wetsuits, provide levels or support and protection that were unthinkable a generation or so ago. Even though sports supports are more effective, they shouldn't be used to come back too early from an injury. Instead, think of them as an aid to getting back to light training. The additional support can help ease you in and give you confidence after injury, to help get you training again.

One of the most useful tools for first aid for sports is the activity specific first aid kit. Designed for a variety of individual sports, each kit has everything a physio or first aider could need, in a handy bag so they can carry supplies around with them and attend to players on the pitch as required. Injuries vary from sport to sport, so each kit takes this into account. No more magic sponge and muddy water. Instead, you get the supplies you need to safeguard the safety of your players no matter what level they play at. From school teams to pro teams, there are kits for every level.
